If it's only going to get later sun, it's probably fine @dappledshade. It's that early stuff after frost that does the damage if there's new growth, but sometimes you just have to accept that, and it won't kill them. The dissectums are more prone to a bit of wind damage, but that one's a palmatum, so that's less of a problem. The purple ones need some sun to give the best colour, so it's often just a case of picking the site carefully while they're younger. Once they mature more, they cope better anyway. Everything's later here, so although we can also get later frosts, we get a lot more wet stuff, and sleet/snow, and wind at the pertinent time. It's also why our climate up here in the west is so perfect for them. Damp, cool and cloudy
