Bamboo

I have running bamboo in a stone hedge so can’t get at the running rhizome. Glyphosate hasn’t done the job despite repeated applications on new leaves after cutting down the bamboo, some of it over 14 feet high. Am considering the drastic diesel option. Can anyone persuade me not to ?

    Yes - it's a very dangerous solution.  :|
You need a stumpkiller/brushwood product. SBK is the most readily available one - lots of places sell it.

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Not sure what you mean by a "stone hedge" so perhaps you need to be more specific as to the site.
There are other weedkillers - SBK eg but bear in mind that you need to apply at the correct time of year and wait for the chemical to be absorbed by the roots.
Diesel is a contaminant as I'm sure you know - that should be enough of a persuasion for you to avoid using it in your garden :)

I assume it's estate agents speak for a wall!
Would it be illegal to use an unapproved chemical as a herbicide or is it just illegal to market those products for unapproved uses?

I believe, at least here in Ireland, if you spill diesel you are required to report it as contamination and have it professionally cleaned up... it leaches into drainage systems and water courses and poisons the ecosystem.

I imagine a stone hedge is a dry stone wall...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
