in Wildlife gardening
WE feed the birds in our garden just sunflower hearts, on a couple of occasions we have found leaves and twigs and other debris covering the food in our garden, can anyone tell me what this could be please?

    Bit vague - do you have a photo?
    Birds are messy generally, and some bigger, ground feeding birds will dig around to get at any dropped food, so it could simply be that. Where do you have the feeders located?
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    The seed is on a bird house but it’s on my fish pond so it’s not that high off the ground

    Probably just been blown in by the wind. Rooks/crows often drop stuff too.  :)

    Hmmm it does look a bit 'placed' .... perhaps an investment in one of those wildlife night time cameras is called for?

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

    We also have 2 wooden stools in the garden which I put the seed on and it happened again a couple of weeks ago we are just at a loss of what it could be

    Do you mean it was on the stools as well?
    If so, that certainly seems a little bit strange. 
    A camera, as suggested, would certainly help see what's happening  :)

    It's mice, I'm 100% sure.  I often see identical behaviour (they always cover open food sources like that, and also pile collected food items up.)  Tidy little things.  I used a trailcam to catch them in action. :)
    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

    They have done it again will take a pic, we r looking into buying a video camera just so we do know that it is a mouse
