I must say that, living as I do in one of the driest parts of the country, I have never ever watered an established lawn. The lawns here often turn brown in the summer (although not this year 🌧) but as soon as the drought is over and we’ve had a few heavy showers they quickly green up again.
My understanding, gained from time spent on the family farm and with other farmers, is that using sprinklers is the least efficient way of watering crops … so much valuable water is lost to evaporation.
While other people may not feel a responsibility towards this planet’s resources, I do … and while I water my vegetables I will not water an established lawn.
Others may have different priorities 😊

I started this thread as just an example of a DIY project.
Not one comment about the practicalities of the construction.
As I said, some have tried to turn it into an environmental debate.
I'm not sure how much influence individuals or this board will have in "saving the planet" and a small rarely used lawn sprinkler system won't make any difference either.
I really don't mind whether people water their lawns or not, it's of no concern of mine.
i don't think me having a "yellow lawn" for three months will help anyone.
Given that comparatively few people read this board one wonders why anyone would bother to post here 🤣
Hey ho … I won’t stay where I’m not wanted. This is obviously ‘your thread’ and not open for discussion.
Sorry, but that read like "a bit of a flounce"
You don't get it do you?
It was a post about a project, How many times do I have to say it?
It's on the Tools & Techniques forum for a reason.
If you've technical questions, or want to "discuss" elements of the construction, I'd be glad to answer you.
But you have tried to make it "your thread," by banging on about environmental issues, so I'll leave it to you, as it's not what it was supposed to be about.
Me? I didn’t post until the second page … and when I posted it was in response to other posts discussing lawn care techniques … it’s the way conversations develop … If yiu don’t want ‘your’ thread to develop into a conversation perhaps you should set out the parameters for responding at the beginning.

Gardeners could chose to lead on this.
