Rose identification help

fizzylizfizzyliz Posts: 398
Hi, I absolutely love this rose ?bush (not sure if bush or rambler) in a neighbours garden. It is still flowering now and smells so beautiful! It is such a strong scent that you can smell it just walking past at a distance. The birds also love hiding in and beneath it. I really want one. Any ideas what it is? Thank you!

The only roses I know of that look like that are Rosa Complicata and Rosa Glauca (but that has different petals) - both of which are summer flowering.

If it’s a once flowering rose it could be Complicata, if it flowers from Spring to Autumn it could be Ballerina, maybe.

Likely to be Ballerina if still flowering now, certainly looks like it. Kew Rambler is similar, but I think that’s also once-flowering.

I think it's Ballerina, mine is flowering now, the only thing is that it doesn't have much fragrance. I wonder if @Marlorena would know.

It is repeat flowering! Thank you, ballerina looks very similar! I emailed David Austin roses too and they’re wondering about scented carpet? 🧐

...yes 'Ballerina'... the larger black spotty foliage, small hips and clusters of flowers all indicate this rose..  I find it does have a musky scent that wafts a bit, but not much..

'Scented Carpet' is quite different, as it's a floppy ground cover type, with smaller foliage and individual flowers that are not quite the same...

    I've had both here..

It could also be Mozart, which I have with Ballerina and Mozart is more scented. Its flowers can be a darker pink. depending on the position, and anyway they soon fade if the shrub is in full sun

I would say no, not Mozart, although they are quite similar, Ballerina is much the more popular rose offered here, you don't see Mozart too much.. and the flowers are a little different, with more pink in them..

..here are a few photos of 'Scented Carpet'.  I think we can rule it out, as you see the individual flowers are flatter..

@Marlorena I didn’t know Mozart is not so popular there. Think that here usually who has Ballerina, has Mozart too and often there is also Belinda together that two.
Mozart flower are more pink, almost a fuchsia colour sometimes, but in a flash a few days you can’t really say which is Mozart and  which Ballerina, especially if they are in full sun they’re almost identical.
In my garden, Mozart is growing bigger and taller than Ballerina
  • @fizzyliz how about asking your neighbour for a cutting. There looks to be plenty of one foot long pIeces. We saw Monty taking rose cuttings and just sticking them in the soil. They start to grow in about a year and they get flowers in two years approx. It looks like
a bush type rose. I’ve done it with climbers and ramblers and it was a success. Valerie
