just taken these pictures,6 in the lounge in flower, one in the hall, coming up,thats the blue pot. The ones not in flower are in the conservatory. Will take pictures after phone had charged
Re the Dendrobium - bear in mind that a cold spell often helps them to produce flowers. Mine are still outside (coastal W Somerset ) and are just beginning to show the flower stems emerging. Depending on the weather, I'll bring them indoors in the next week or so to flower over the next couple of months
Oh, I didn't know they could be put outdoors. Probably not, in the icy cold north east. The first photo I am putting on, is the one at the start of this topic - when it still only had one cane. The second photo, is of another plant I bought a few months later. Leaves slightly different.
Lovely. They shouldn't go below 10c, mine came in a month ago,and I live in the warmest mildest SE. In Summer, soon as the frost have Finnished, they go outside, under trees in the shade,in hanging baskets. The one with the big white flowers in my pictures had a new spike over 18 inches long. They love it out there,it makes it much easier to water and feed.with laminate flooring and wooden furniture, you can't spray them in situ. You do need to keep them out of direct sunlight. I used to put them up on a pallet and the slugs got at them. In their normal habitat, they would be on the trees in the rain forest. We had an unheated spare bedroom in our last House,I would put them in there for 6 weeks,to encourage them to flower. I didn't have 25 then! I binned a couple the slugs had got at,and gave one to my daughter a couple of weeks ago. Mine are all white, but different type, tiny highly scented flowers. Yours are a beautiful colour
These produce tiny white highly scented flowers just on the very top. I got 2 from my osteopath, her hubby propagates them and can't remember the exact variety. There are 3 more large ones underneath, you can't see because I was forced to crop.
Theres a couple more in wall planters. These all live in winter in the conservatory, which is north facing, but because it's a bungalow not overshadowed, by anything, sun comes in the roof even in winter, but not on the orchids. I think they like a holiday because they flowers for weeks and months at a time With so many,I use a consentrate feed you put in a sprayer diluted with (rain) water
I am so sorry for the long delay in getting back to you, Nanny. I have not been on line for a week. Thank you for letting me see your lovely plants, and for the advice. I was very surprised that orchids can survive outdoors, anywhere in this country. The rear of my house is south facing, so I cannot keep most of my plants in the conservatory - too hot in summer, and too cold in winter. So, most live in the bathroom, as far away as possible from the window.
My bamboo orchid now has lots of buds. Previously, there had been one flower per stalk. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw several stalks had two buds on them. And one even has three.
