Should I prune these dwarf plum trees?

Hi all,

I bought these 2 dwarf plums a few months ago. Each one has a strong leader sprouting. Should I prune these to encourage denser growth? (and hopefully a bigger crop?). I dont want to cut the leader in case it stunts them or something.

Do you think these will produce fruit next summer, or does it usually take a few years for them to bare fruit? (theyre Victoria Plums)

Thanks

Plums should be pruned only in the summer to prevent disease getting in so leave it till next year before doing anything. Did they come with a pruning guide? Good suppliers usually have advice pages on their websites which should be specific to the plants they sell.
