What risks are you going to take with your plants this coming winter?

I have a Beaucarnea recurva ( Pony tail palm ) - grown from seed in 1984, he is finally too big for this property.

Someone round the corner from me put theirs outside last year. It was near the front of the house but completely unprotected, just in its pot, and from what I remember it stayed looking great most of the winter. I don't know if it made it through completely but we did have a very cold winter here and it was the wettest for 100 years apparently (which killed their very large agave americana).
I was surprised by how "normal" it looked for at least a couple of months, no black leaves or anything. So hopefully with some good protection yours will be ok.
  • Thanks for the encouragement altho I'm surprised the Beaucarnea survived whilst the A americana succombed. Interesting tho as I haven't come across anyone else with this particular palm. At least I have several younger ones which thankfully still fit in the house :D
My Agave's stay out all year here in the SW UK - they can look a bit rough by winter's end but pick up when the temps rise.
