No Clark’s shoes for me when I was little.  We couldn’t have afforded those.
I always bought Startrite for my children,  Clarke’s weren’t wide enough.

I've sent you all down memory lane,I suppose the folk I want to chat to,are busy mending their shoes and boots then! I found out many years later,my late mother often didn't eat,and my lovely gran bought my clothes including the shoes. My late Father had really bad arthritis, then his spine crumbles, not much in the way of treatment on the 50s and no sick pay. Often my late mum's money she cleaned a private house, was our only income. I think I will order soles/heels on e bay,see how it goes.NOW I need to know about solar panels, quote from council bid arrived at yesterday, I don't want to be blinded by the technical aspect, just is it worth, using up hubbies pension pot. Not interested in "projected" or possible savings.

I think you need to talk to @raisingirl, @Nanny Beach, about possible solar panels.  She's very knowledgeable...  all I know is that the ones we inherited with this house, work well at heating our water.  The roof faces nearly due south, which is important.  You need a storage tank though, so if you're currently getting "instant" hot water direct from your boiler that will be an extra expense.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
