Replanting cherry Tree

Hi
I have a sour cherry tree which has suffered badly due to canker and so unfortunately I am going to have dig it up as it has spread through the whole tree. My question is, can I plant a new cherry tree in the same spot if I dig out all the roots?

Hi @Gilberton -  I think it's ok as long as you renew the soil properly and possibly plant in a position where it's not exactly where the previous tree was.

Perhaps some of the 'tree experts' here can help you more specifically though - maybe @BobTheGardener might know, or @Pete.8   :)
