    Now I'm looking at the pics on my laptop rather than my phone, I'm going with Creeping Buttercup for both of them ... it looks a bit more robust now. 

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

    Thanks everyone. 

    I've been trying to create a meadowy area at the front of the house, is it worth potting up a few of the buttercups? Will they stay in the cold frame over winter to be planted out in the spring?
    I’ve no idea what I’m doing.

    Don’t use Creeping Buttercup (Ranunculus repens) in a meadow. It’ll swamp your other plants and doesn’t have the tall sprays of flowers you’re looking for. 
    What you need is Ranunculus Acris    the Meadow Buttercup. 😊
