Cherry tree varieties which cross-pollinate

Hi,
I’m planning to plant two cherry trees this winter, one acid and one sweet. I fancy Merchant for the sweet and Nabella for the acid. Merchant needs a pollinator and both trees seem to flower mid season so I’m hoping that the Nabella will do the job but although I’ve seen many charts on the net I can’t find one which covers these two trees. I understand that some varieties won’t cross pollinate even if they flower at the same time so I need to know that they are compatible before I take the plunge. Can anyone help put my mind at rest?

I had a look at the Keepers Nursery site which indicates they're both self-fertile, but it may be with cherries that a pollinator would increase yield as it does with some other fruits but I don't know in all honesty as I don't grow them - they would just be bird food!
They do also give pollination partners for both though-

I have bought from them before and have been extremely pleased with what they have sent.
Hope that's of some help & welcome to the forum :)

  • Many thanks Pete,
looks like they are not compatible so I’ll have to think again. BTW, Merchant is marked as self sterile, ie it needs a pollination partner
