Always be careful when checking. Their roots are rather weak/brittle/breakable so do not disturb them much.

I find the leaves just drop off when underwatered, rather than go black
  • Update on my friends Bougainvillea - I eased it out of its pot as I still haven't watered it the soil that has been used was common compost and was still soaking wet.  I gently removed the soil my friend had used and repotted it back into the same pot but with John Innes No3 and a handful of grit thereby improving the drainage and we will see where we go from there.  Not looking promising but will wait and see results.  hanks again for all your comments.

  • Further update, checked I pruned it back removing any dead shoots and shaped the now leafless plant into a semi trailing Bonsai style (I have other Bonsai trees) and treated it the same way as my flourishing Bougainvillea in the Conservatory and much to my surprise I looked this morning and it has two new shoots near to the base of the plant.  Heres hoping it will continue to recover.
  • Many Thanks songbird-1
