Pennisetum rubrum

I have 3 beautiful pots of this beautiful grass and like to know how to care for them now autumn/winter approaches. Should I plant out in the borders or protect pots for winter in sunny position ?  Advice please as colder evenings here in South West France and sunny afternoons now.
My first post on the forum so looking forward to support from all you gardeners. Thank you.

I don't know the climate that way but a few members will . P.Rubrum can't take frost at all it really needs to be in a heated greenhouse or the house for it to survive.

    Very tender.

Either a well heated g/h, or indoors and even then they are difficult to care for.

Hi Brenda and welcome to the forum! I also have P. Rubrum and had the same query as you:

I’m keeping a beady eye on the nighttime temperatures as I have similarly warm days and cold nights, then at the merest hint of frost the pots will be whizzed into the warm garage. Finger’s crossed both yours and mine survive 🤞

  • Thank you all for comments much appreciated. I have moved them indoors for winter on a first floor landing position where they will get some warmth from sunshine but be protected. We shall see…. happy gardening !!
