I totally agree with you all. I very much doubt he realises he is being inappropriate, I think some people just don't know or read boundaries very well. He might get the message more when I put up a row of screening trees along that fence
@Topbird I missed your post earlier! Thank you so much for the reassurance, I'm feeling much better about it all. I'm going to buy myself a copy of that book and DVD right now, thanks for the recommendation!
I think some people also don't mind everyone they know, and even people they don't know, knowing every detail of their lives (or even encourage it), and therefore don't realise that other people can find it intrusive and uncomfortable. All the detail that people post on social media never ceases to amaze me. Maybe they want to live in the public eye as if they were celebrities.
I second Geoff Hamilton's books by the way, I have many of them and still pick them up to browse from time to time.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
I totally agree with you @JennyJ. I'm quite private, and careful about what I tell people - even quite close friends, whereas my sister couldn't be more different!
The fact that @gilla.walmsley is single however, leads me to think the man is slightly more aware of the situation than it possibly appears, and that it could be quite different if she had a partner living there. Perhaps I'm paranoid, but I know what it's like being on your own, and it can be 'difficult' in many situations.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I think there will be some useful pointers in the Geoff H book and DVD.
As far as I can recall, that particular series concentrated on making small intimate areas in the garden where you can tuck yourself away and feel completely hidden from your surroundings. He also looked at how water features and scented plants can lift your spirits and distract your attention from less appealing surroundings - exactly the sort of things we've discussed on this thread.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Hello all - I realise I am updating on multiple connected posts but just wanted to say thank you to everyone in this thread who helped me make the decision to stay in my house instead of move. The garden work has just been completed and I'm really pleased with it. Still SO much to do (lawn edging still need to be bashed in and a bit of extra grass sown, the pergola stained and decking re-stained etc etc) but it's getting there!
I'm planning to plant 4 trees, including one in the newly created space at the side of the decking (a small one) to help block the neighbours. The trellis is going back as wasn't quite what I wanted and will be replaced by more open ones so I can grow things up to create a bit of a green fence and give some height over the fence line. The pergola will of course also have plants grown up it.
I also bought myself some wireless Bose noise cancelling headphones on the recommendation here and they're great! Fingers crossed this summer will be better than last with the noise - and now I have my beautiful greenhouse to hide in!!
Now I just need to grow/buy a lot of plants for the new flower beds!
