Plant next to pond

Not sure if the buds have flowered. Do I need to chop back when winter arrives? It doesn’t look very healthy…

    One of the flag irises, or possibly a different iris - sibirica or similar. Many look pretty identical at this stage of the year, and can be in the shallows/marginals of the pond, or in the wetter soil round about it. 
    Those are just the seedheads, so you can snip those off. Most of them flower in summer.  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....



    I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
