Brassica attack

What what is eating/shredding my brassicas? The leaves almost look shredded to a lacework. Caterpillars or birds are not responsible and there are no signs of flea beetle. It happened earlier in the year and has happened now with winter plantings.

Hi @ralphbliss48 and welcome to the forum  :)

My first thought was wood pigeons getting at them early in the morning, but if you're sure it's not them, then my second thought is snails and/or slugs 😠

Pigeons tend to get up before we do!  They love a bit of cabbage, or chard or whatever tasty morsel they can find.  I lost a whole row of chard to pigeons and snails. Should have netted them!

  • Thanks for the response. We do have the usual slugs and snails but I am sure they are not the culprits, for a change. The leaf problem seems to start with small pale marks on the leaves which develop into holes with dry edges.
