Slug Damage?

Hi all - apologies for this rather basic level conundrum, is this slug damage or am I directing blame in error? It seems to have affected everything I have planted this Autumn. This is Pak Choi if I remembered correctly.... :'(

  • My pak choi was definitely frequented by snugs and snails
  • Our pak choi suffered as well. However we did keep watering as much as we could (and still are as they are in the polytunnel) and we can still harvest a good crop albeit with a few holes!

Our pak choi was all grazed to the ground overnight by slugs … when it was in pots on grit in a cold frame 😡

    Never happened before 😡

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

  • Sorry if i confused everyone - I'm just trying to identify the the culprit - and hence the remedy- does this look like slug damage or is it something else?

I'd say most likely yes. I tried covering mine (growing in a pot) with some plastic bag in the night, which worked to some extent. Next time I'll try placing the pot high up on a shelf.

As to your pak choi growing in the ground, it looks like they are big enough for harvesting? If not I'd put a pot upside down to cover it during the night.... My amateurish advice...
  • It could be though pak choi is also beloved by flea beetle, which could explain the smaller holes. Not sure what time of year they are active though.
  • Good call on the upside down pot - thank you.

Have also installed x 3 beer traps to try to bring the damage to a halt on the other stuff in the bed. Fingers crossed for a good catch  :)
