If I had to cut back all my overgrown plants when the books say you should, I’d have to put in 48 hour days at certain times of the year. Or hire a big team of gardeners. I tend to cut stuff back when I have time, and get round to it. I’m pretty certain I haven’t lost anything yet, although some things haven’t flowered the following year. All our stuff is pretty tough though, camellias, rhododendrons and other acid lovers, and no delicate single specimen plants, they wouldn’t survive my clumsy gardening anyway.
