Sweet Peas

Hi all, I cut some sweet peas for indoors the problem I had was although scented it only lasted for a few hours and the flowers only lasted a couple of days before dying any tips on how next year I can get them to last a little longer.

    I'd be interested as well mine only lasted a couple of days as well.

    I always cut mine and put them straight into water. I take a jug or vase of water up the garden with me. I used to take some to work with me for workmates, always in the water, not wrapped. Now I take some to a neighbour, I take them in a vase and through the summer the vases get rotated.  I buy small vases from charity shops for one or two pounds maximum.  Cut them when the first flower is fully open on the stem, and the others open in in the vase.   They last about five days this way.  Scent varies as to variety. I always choose varieties that are described as highly scented.

    Cutting early in the day helps too.  I also do as @fidgetbones describes - picking when there are still buds on the stem means they last longer.

    You can add a drop of bleach and a tiny amount of sugar too if you want. That's essentially what's in those little sachets of gubbins that you get with bought flowers.
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
