  I found a proper fairy ring of fairy mushrooms today. Sorry for the terrible photos but it was getting dark and I only had my phone. The ring drops down a bank at the top of the photo but it was complete around that dead stump. I didn't step into it

  I've been learning about fungi that specifically grow out of conifer cones so I've got a pile of cones sitting in a damp corner and I'm hoping one of them will grow something interesting. So far this is the only mushroom to pop up. The stem is about as fine as a human hair and the head is 1mm wide.

  It's the Laowa 60mm 2x macro. I'm really pleased with it so far but I can see why the 100mm is preferred just for the extra working distance.
  

  I think I've identified that mushroom now. It's known as the Frosty Bonnet (mycena adscendens) due to the particles on the cap that look like frost.
