my winter cabbages

Following this years absolute devastation caused by caterpillars devouring my Cauliflowers and cabbages, all my fault for taking the nets off. I have some lovely cabbages on the go and they are bursting out of the netting tunnels, my question is would it at this time of year be safe to expose them? I'm sure those horrible butterflies are still lurking around.
