That soil looks OK, seen a lot worse!

Is that the new topsoil that's been delivered? Mine is a lot worse than that, in places where I haven't amended it, eg if I lift an old shrub or a paving slab! A good dose of organic matter mixed in would be good unless you plan to plant things that don't like it, such as mediterranean-type plants that like poor free-draining soil (but you'd really need to make sure the drainage is sharp for those).
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
  • Cool! I have compost and soil enricher (stinks, so at least mostly manure :) ) and told them to mix it all in. Thanks for the moral support during these trying times  #FWP
As we say in Ireland, shert'll be grand
  • All this was in the top 6". This is HANSON'S PAVING idea of a flowerbed.

Is Hanson's Paving who did the landscaping then? That's the problem. Most of them [landscapers]  aren't gardeners  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Correct, but they agreed to fill a hole with soil. It's not hard

They used the flowerbed for fly tipping. Finding the slabs I didn't use broken up and added. It's the lies I can't stand.
  • It's actually Hanson property maintenance.
They're promising to come back with the soil and remove the rest of their materials and tools. This includes a burnt out wheelbarrow. They set the garden waste on fire and singed my trees and vinca. The fire got out of control when they left it to go for lunch!l on day one. Should have fired them on the spot. Lesson learned: don't be so desperate to get something done that you're willing to take foolish risks.
