Should I pull carrots up?

I sowed carrots around 3 months ago I think. They have grown ok but not a proper big size yet. I've pulled a few and they have a bit of wireworm damage. The tops look to be flopping over but not sure if that's just because they are wet.

Do you think I'd be best pulling up now or waiting to hope they size up before first frost?

  • Can you remember which variety of carrot seed you sowed?  Wireworm damage is rare - are you sure it isn't carrot fly?

I think they may be Nantes. Not sure about damage but we've had wireworm on pots, they are just little holes no black stuff and I've had them under enviromesh the whole time.
  • Nantes type varieties are generally grown for fast cropping but don't survive well in the soil once the weather turns frosty or very wet, so I'd lift before then.  Autumn King and related varieties can be left in the ground much longer and harvested over winter, providing the pests don't get at them.  I'd just keep an eye on the wireworm damage and for now and lift them if it's increasing.
