Planting clematis now?

Is it OK to plant clematis now while the earth is still warm, or wait until next year? I have a sheltered London garden so won't be exposed to severe winter weather.

It's absolutely fine @sallypowell01, assuming it's a decent sized plant, and the ground is nicely prepped, and the conditions right for the variety you have  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • thank you - that's what I was hoping!

Do you know what variety you have? Some need different conditions from others  :)

  • Lonicera periclymenum Rhubarb and Custard is for a north facing trellis in light shade between my garden and the neighbour's, so needs to be small. The other is Lonicera periclymenum Strawberries and Cream and although in a north facing garden will be in full sun throughout the day in summer.

Ah - not clematis then   :)

Just be aware that full sun for honeysuckles is very difficult.

It's still fine to plant them @sallypowell01, but just be aware of the site. Makes life easier for the aftercare.
Mind and buy a few clematis while you're there too   ;)

You can never have too many of them @sallypowell01  ;)

Check out the good suplliers though - Taylors, Thorncroft and Hawthornes. Peter Beales [roses] are also very good suppliers of clematis.
You may want to re mortgage the house though... :D

  • I'm looking on Crocus for the lonicera. Also checked out Sara Raven, but thought that was expensive.
