White eggs ID

FireFire Posts: 19,096
I found these eggs under a log. They are like white pearls. They are not jelly-like, not clear and not soft. But like small, hard, opaque, ovoid beads. And not set in a gel or binding, but each free and independent. Teaspoon for scale. Snails?

Thanks

The large log was embedded in the soil, so it's got me wondering how a snail could get right under there to lay...
  • How different do slug eggs look to these? I squashed a load the other week because they were hiding in a very sluggy place, and like Fire I'm not sure a snail shell would have fitted.

The slug eggs I usually find in the compost bin, are clear, soft and like jelly and set together in a gel. But different slugs lay differently.

They're pretty similar. Some are more opaque than others.
Slugs spend a lot of time well below ground. The small ones can get into the tiniest places - as can the tiniest snails. Some snails are only around half a centimetre at most.

I picked one off a plant yesterday that was half the size of my pinky fingernail    :)

They're still capable of all sorts of destruction @CharlotteF ;)

I'll stop feeling so bad about the one she currently has captive in her fruit punnet 'snail home' in the living room then 😆

Some will no doubt be young ones @CharlotteF, but I believe there are snails which are only a few mm in size.  :)
She sounds like my oldest, when she had the pet spider in her bedroom  :D
    Happy days.
