Perhaps multiple smaller clems and roses might work better. Sellers like Thorncrofts, David Austin, Trevor White and Peter Beale have sites with fairly good filters so you can view by size, season, colour etc.

I grew a montana and it brought the other fence down and was a bit of a nightmare for the other neighbour. I would love to try a solanum album but I think that will have to wait for the next garden. But it sounds like you will stick with the ivy for now and try and reign it in a bit. Good luck with your garden plans.

Thanks for the warning, @Fire.  I planted a Actinidia Kolomikta (kiwi plant) under the front high fence. But they grew to about 60cm high and then stopped growing. Not sure what's going on. I have too many plants at my hands, so can't be too bothered until next year.

Oooo, my neighbour has a happy kiwi and it looks amazing! I hope you can figure out what's up for yours. He has an exotic garden (NGS) and is somewhat of an expert on such things.

I took seeds from a shop bought kiwi, they all germinate well but then I read I probably wouldn’t get any fruit and the plants grow very big so I dumped them.

  • @Fire, so this plant is probably in the kiwi family. I don't know if it really grows kiwi fruit, but it's been advertised for its foliage.

    Looks unreal, right?

Need to mention, the pinkness would not appear on young plants. Only mature ones (I don't remember how many years).

Just don't know if mine would grow bigger than current size (60cm tall)!

Ivy is definitely the wrong plant in the wrong place in my back garden. It's not mine but clearly wants to be ;)

It's actually on my pest list :o
