Problem Choisya

I know I must remove the dead part but would it be ok to prune it right down to below the space left??

Yes, they respond pretty well to pruning and the gap will soon fill up. But I wonder what happened to it?

They all looked terminal round here after winter @Busy-Lizzie, but most have come back.
Or - that could be animal urine.

    When did it happen @lizmac?

  • Yes, I'd be a bit worried why that section died.  Try following the dead growth back to see if there is any stem damage.  Sometimes, a branch can snap at a junction in heavy wind on large ones - the leaves are heavy.  Either way, cut it back into healthy living wood below the damage or break, ideally just above a shoot, but they really can take a hacking if necessary and seem to have the ability to shoot from any part of the remaining wood. :)

I sometimes had this happen on my choisya.
I found it was probably snails ring barking the stems!
