Munched Delphs

in Plants
Hi, I've got a dozen young Delphiniums plants in 9cm pots that have been munched by, I presume by our resident fat pigeons. They've been left with no leaves, just a couple of stalks. Will they survive if I plant them in a new border or shall I leave them in the pots till the Spring?

In any case, they're such small plants, and already vulnerable with that damage, so keep them a bit protected until next spring/summer when they'll be bigger and stronger, and able to withstand it all a bit more. If you have a cold frame, you could use that - opened up, and it'll let them recover without making them too 'soft'.

I gave up on delphiniums a very long time ago because of slugs. It became pointless. It's that soft, lush new growth they love.

Mine do rather well, 7ft this year!

I sent this one to my sister last week - the photo, not the slug....
