Hypertufa is probably easier to make a bigger container with - but it's getting the cement that's the problem. Perhaps it's easier in certain areas.  :)
I'm not sure how good it is in very cold areas either -  re freezing and cracking, so that might be a consideration.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • I covered an old ammo crate ( from when we lived near Catterick) with hypertufa  when we moved here in '84 and it was only last year that I decided that it needed re-doing. That's quite a few cold and freezing winters it has survived, so worth the trouble of doing it well I think, given the cost of stone containers. :)

Good to know @Buttercupdays. It's something I've thought of doing now that the terracotta pans have finally succumbed, and it would certainly be cheaper than buying new ones.
    A nice project too  :)

Wanted a China sink they are so expensive.
It's amazing how you used to see loads being used in fields as troughs for the animals and now suddenly they've all disappeared.

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
