Identification of spiral object in photo required

Can anyone kindly identify the small spiral item shown in photo abot half inch spiral starts off grey in colour but changes to a darker colour during the day i suspect it appears at night normally several at any one time cannot idetify it as animal dropping any ideas would be appreciated

    I'd agree - and pigeon poop [or similar] alongside  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....



    I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
