Walnut tree

Folks,

Anyone able to advise on the state of my walnut tree...based in north africa i think its eitger zone 10 or 11 had quite a dry harsh summer and so watered every 2 days or so...2/3 times a week. Soil is quite a hard soil almost clay which ive added compost to and sometimes mulch...
In the beginning it was doing quite well but now ive noticed its gone dormant in terms of growth compared to the other trees i have and now the leaves have started to brown too.

Any help appreciated. Thank you for your time.

My walnut looks like that, it's about to shed it's leaves for winter, looking walnuts up they are only suitable up to zone 9 they need 800-1000 chill hours to thrive, so that may well be your problem. The tree is trying to get ready for a winter.

Looks like the usual autumn leaf-drop is starting.  Is it a seedling or a selected fruiting variety?

My seedling has looked worse for longer, just autumn, same last year.

I agree the walnut might be getting ready for winter - but the leaves might also be indicating heat stress.

I am slightly more concerned about the position of the tree. How close is it to that wall / building? Mature walnut trees are huge / taller-than-a-2-storey-house trees.

If the tree grows and it's as close to the wall or building as it looks in the photo it will almost certainly cause damage / problems in a few years time. It needs to be in a fairly open position.
