What is happening to my tree?

At first glance, it looked like my tree was dying from the top

Upon closer inspection (the most zoomed in image) it possibly looks like it is shedding needles and forming new ones?

What do you think?

    It's a normal growth habit for firs and conifers @Jonathan46, to be brown internally because the new growth is on the outside, but it looks as if the brown is only at the top on yours. 
    I wonder if there's been a lack of water - with it being right against the wall, which is always a drier site. Often, with firs and conifers, the problem caused by drought doesn't appear until quite far down the line. By that, I mean that the lack of water could have been ongoing for a considerable time without the tree actually looking troubled. 
    Have you had a look at the soil underneath?
    If it isn't that, it could be excess sun/wind just affecting that top section. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
