My pumpkin fruit going wrinkly, yellow and no longer getting bigger.

This year I wanted to have a go at growing a pumpkin so back in May I planted a Cinderella pumpkin into a 30cm pot. It was having a good cut of sun and some shade later in the day and growth was very quick and everything was going great. From mid August until now I have been deeply watering once a day and have applied some fertilizer, about 2 weeks ago the female flower showed up and was pollinated by the bees in the garden so my pumpkin started growing rapidly for a few days until recently where I noticed the growth completely stopped of the fruit and it started turning squishy, yellow, and wrinkly as per the photo I posted below this… I am not an experienced gardener at all and just wanted to try something new based on the knowledge I have gained from the internet about growing pumpkins. Does anyone know what I have done wrong? Can it be saved? Any help would be very much appreciated.

I am not an expert, but I would guess it's too cold now for them to grow properly. You could try putting some fleece or something over it to keep it a bit warmer, maybe?

  • You planted it in May and didn't get a flower until August I'm afraid the boat has sailed it's too late for pumpkin growth now as they should be full size and ripening by now. Try again next year and hopefully you will get fruit on the plant earlier in the year.

That’s a shame but I’ll plant earlier next year indoors at first and grow in the ground. Thanks for replying
  • Do you have somewhere you can grow a pumpkin in the ground?  They are very big plants … I don’t think it’s possible to grow the large Cinderella type in a pot.

I grow smaller types of squash/pumpkin and each plant  spreads over an area of 2 sq metres.
