Plant bulbs into pots or in the ground?

I am thinking of planting bulbs into pots & then transplanting into the ground once they start growing.

My reasoning is that once I plant the bulbs into the ground I forget what is where.

Once planted into the ground I can take a picture so I know what is where.

What is your thoughts on this?

I do this every year. I can enjoy then from the house, then pop them into the ground later when other stuff come back in Spring.

It's a tried and tested method. It's also useful if you still have something planted that will die back later [annuals possibly]  and you can then slot the bulbs in there afterwards  :)
Taking a photo is certainly a good idea if you can't remember where you've planted them. I never forget of course.... ;)

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Hostafan1 & Fairygirl; thank you, you've put my mind at rest.

Some of my bulbs were dug up so I'm not sure what they are so planting them into a large pot will be very useful.

    Much appreciated..  :D

    I think we've all been there @richard49 :)
I moved a load of plants earlier this year to put my small greenhouse into a border instead. I had a mixed amount of bulbs, so they've just been stuck in a pot too. It'll be interesting when they flower  ;)
