Dahlia cut back for winter

Don't want to dig my Dahlia's up for the winter but would appreciate any advice on how far to cut them bach for the winter and when to do this (they're in pots).  Thank you.

Wait until the frost takes off the leaves, then cut down to about 10cm, and lay the pots on one side so liquid drains out.  Then move the pots somewhere dry and frost free for winter.  That could be a cellar if you've got one. If the pots freeze, the tubers will turn to mush.
