Caryopteris

Hi,

My Caryopteris are finishing flowering, do I dead head them or just leave them until next spring to cut back?

    I usually give mine a light trim after they've finished flowering to tidy them up a bit (not yet for me - they're still covered in flowers and bees) and then prune hard in spring just as they start to show signs of growing. So I think it's up to you.

    Ok, thanks. If I do dead head, do I just take each stem down to the node immediately below the start of the flowers?

    I'm not so precise - I just give it a light clip all over then prune properly (hard and down to nodes) in the spring. It doesn't regrow over winter after the clipping, but for me that will be at least another 3 or 4 weeks because they're still in full bloom.
