    Are you thinking of Schizanthus?

My grandfather grew them in his greenhouse … he called them butterfly flowers.

I’ve also heard them called Poor Man’s Orchid.

Which plants in particular Alan,  I have several which the butterflies like.
Just thought, do you mean Guara?
You can grow anything in pots if you look after them, they need more care than they would in the ground.

Yes, Buddlea,  I was thinking of perennials ,   I don’t find them very suitable for pots Alan,  they love to grow into huge big plants but you cut them right down in the Spring so they get nice and thick.

  • There are some smaller new varieties of buddleia that are suitable for pots. Proven Winners in the US has been breeding a number of them and some of them have made it across the Atlantic.

    For instance this one: https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/buddleia/lo-behold-pink-micro-chip-butterfly-bush-buddleia-x

Saw one of their junior varieties at B&Q earlier...

There are small buddleias which have been around for a while [I've forgotten the name of them] but I've seen quite a few queries on the forum about them, and they aren't that small after a while.
I wonder if the ones you mention will be better @amancalledgeorge:)

I have "Miss Ruby" which is one of the "smaller" ones. It was fine in a large container for a couple of years and but you could see it needed to get its roots down and out in the garden, where it's doing well but not too tall.
