Himalayan honeysuckle hard cut back now (Sep)?

Hi all,
When I read about cutting this back it says in Spring, what would happen if i were to do it now (Sep-Nov)? Its swamping other plants I will be cutting back in Nov.
Thanks all

Nothing much is the short answer.  :)
You certainly won't kill it, but it will just affect flowering times etc for a while.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Brill thanks FairyGirl
  • I read last year that you cut them back in autumn so I did that to mine, down to about 2ft. But it struggled to get going this year, no sign of life until mid-May, maybe because of how cold it was? It's only reach 4ft this year, half the height it was last year and very few flowers. Disappointing ☹️ so won't be cutting this year and I think in future I'll probably give it more of a "trim" to keep it under control

Keep cutting it back but at some stage the branches will become bigger and thicker almost like bamboo.

I took mine out as it was not attracting bees or birds as they do in The Himalayas

  • Thanks newboy2 the bees loved the flowers on mine (inherited when bought the house) I just wasn’t cut back last year so it’s pretty big.  The branches are like bamboo!

I’ve got a big patch of it on the top of a slope and blocking the path at the top. Every year, I pull as much of it out by the roots as I can. Every spring it’s back in force!
