Flamingo salix tree with very long branches

I planted 2 flamingo salix trees May 2020. They have both taken really well. The main thing about them is the length of the branches, a good percentage of them are almost touching the floor. I want to trim them back to make a nice compact bushy tree. When is the best time to do this? and how much can I take off some of the branches are approx 3ft long and getting longer!!. Thank you for any ideas to help in this matter

These trees are fine with pruning when you need it. You can shorten some now and check again next year.
