Don't tempt me about that clay @Dovefromabove  :D
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Squirrels have cost me a few outdoor  tomato plants but now I use coated chicken wire on the pots they've gone off in a strop somewhere   :)

Use the wire mesh with the smaller holes.  Make a hollow 'bowl' of the wire mesh and put the bulbs in it and wire the edges together.  Dig a hole and plant the whole bowl and cover with soil.  That'll keep them out and if you mark the spot you can find and remove them again easily.  Just laying mesh over the top doesn't work ... they'll tunnel underneath it or remove it.

    Good luck  :)
How small of holes do you need to use in order to avoid problems?  Just doing some quick research - do we think like a 20 mesh would do the trick? https://www.bwire.com/

Says that would be around 20 wires per inch of material?  Not that expensive - but want to make sure I am in the right ballpark before placing any kind of order.
