Identify.

Hi all,

Here I am again asking for help identifying!

Can anyone tell me what is shown in the attached picture, popping up from underneath my hydrangea…

Thank you,
Aidan. :)

That would be my answer as well. Possibly a present from a bird feeder (or bird 🐦) ?

    yup
  • Thank you all…
I had thought this initially, but wasn’t positive…

I’m in the highlands of Scotland, surely it’s a bit late in the day for a sunflower?!

It might make it, but sunflower seed will germinate any time the conditions are right and you don't know how long ago the seed was deposited (probably dropped by  bird, as @AnniD mentioned.)
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

No - with all the very dry, favourable weather we've had recently @aidanhoad, it's not unusual for it to have germinated . I've had things seeding and germinating which normally wouldn't. Many plants wouldn't even be at the seeding stage yet in an average year  :)

Enjoy it - you should get a flower if the weather stays even for a couple of weeks. They tough :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
