Renovatingan old greenhouse - what to do with the beds?

Hello all, newish gardener here.

I have an old but functional greenhouse. It needs a good clean and has two beds along the length that ive cleared of weeds. Id like to use my greenhouse as a simple nursery/coldframe and get some seeds started this year for next. I don't want to use the beds right now, although that may change in the future. Would covering bare soil with landscape fabric and then gravel be a sensible way to cover it up? Then i can put some shelves about for my nursery pots. What would be the best way to cover beds and avoid slugs making a home there? Many thanks!

Economically, builders membrane held in place by a few bricks or stones would do the job perfectly well and, before you put it down, any nutritional material like compost or manure could be applied so that, when the membrane's removed, the soil's ready for whatever you wish to plant.
  • Great idea! Compost mulch before i cover it up. I think bricks makes more sense as removing gravel down the line is a pain.
