It doesn't look that bad to me Sheila, l think it's just getting to the end of the year. Maybe @Fairygirl can confirm.

Are these not the same photos as the ones on your thread about a Weigela @Sheila Allder?
I must admit when I saw them, I thought they looked more like a peony.  :)

I'd agree with @AnniD though - it doesn't look unusual for the time of year

I just wrote that on the weigela thread! glad I'm not imagining it :D. And I agree, it looks normal for the time of year - they're starting to die back now.

  • Peonies are herbaceous. Depending on where you are they can die all the way down to invisibility over winter. You might want to put a marker in so you don't plant on top of it in early spring. One of things I really enjoy with peonies is seeing little red pointy shoots appearing from nowhere in late spring.

I’ve just cut the dead leaves off mine, the pink shoots are already there.

Ours have been even later than usual this year, due to a longer winter and then a record breaking dry summer,  so they still have their foliage, although it's all turning.
The foliage looks better than usual too because it's been drier. Normally manky and brown and ugly at this time of year.

  • Thank you everyone and sorry about the Photo mix up, I had issues having to re-size them and then after uploading about ten attempts for them to post !

It's ok @Sheila Allder - we got there in the end   ;)

The pix upload best if you can resize to around 1MB  :)
