When is frost coming?

I’ve just looked out the window and it’s totally Misty. Weather is starting to change. I have a few plants that I’d like to shelter before frost arrives - perlagoniums and herbs, begonia, chrysanthemums. It will probably be the end of the flower season too. So how do know when the first frost will arrive, is it just the weather forecast?

It's a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question but, yes, keep an eye on the weather forecast.

I'm hoping it will be a good while yet though - I'm still trying to ripen tomatoes and chillies ;)

When you've been gardening a while, you learn when your conditions are changing. With pelargoniums, always better to err on the side of caution.
Herbs - most are hardy, but some aren't, and again - your climate will dictate, so just do some research, rather than relying totally on weather forecasts. I use a couple of forecasts, but they're usually not completely accurate re frost. The little thermometers you can get for outdoors are also useful, but not all are totally accurate either.
Our frosts start in October, but the severity of the frost is less important than the length of time it persists, and also what happens either side of that. For example, a frost of minus five for a few hours does less damage than one at zero, or around that,  that goes on all day and then into the night and next day etc    :)

Begonias are generally not hardy, and most chrysants aren't either. I don't grow them though, so someone else will advise on that.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
