Lawn Mower - Rows of Cut Grass Deposited

Here's another tip if you want to cut the lawn but it's wet with dew, which tends to lingerin Autumn (and Spring). Get a long thin cane and swish it horizontally over the grass to knock off the worst of the water droplets, then leave it an hour or two and it should be dry enough to cut (as long as it doesn't rain). You might feel a bit silly crouching down and swishing a cane over the grass, but it does work. The traditional method is to use a besom (broom made of long twigs) but most of us don't have one of those kicking around.

This can happen when there's moisture (dew) on the grass, even a hint of it. Are you mowing in the evening or early morning? Try doing it during the middle of the day when the grass is dry.

I get the same happening if the grass is still a bit damp.
I do the same as @JennyJ suggests - I have a 6ft length of plastic downpipe and I kick that around the lawn to knock off all the dew, then mow a couple of hours later.

When mowing damp grass, the hole where the grass passes through to the basket becomes clogged and as you mow you see a line of clippings being deposited either side of the mower, if you lift the basket lid you'll see the hole is clogged with wet grass even if the basket is almost empty.

I did at at 12pm but there was a slight dampness so maybe it's that. Working this weekend and forecast some rain tomorrow so it was now or never.

I had read that mowing early is better to allow the grass to recover throughout the day but I think some advice forgets the awkwardness of trying to find a rare period of dryness in the UK!

We often have to do exactly that here - just cut when it suits us  @danny_ryan95 .  It's usually harder earlier in the year, when it really gets going, but the weather doesn't play ball.  This year has been different though.

I always do mine later in the day to get the best chance of it being dry, but if it's not going to be dry for a while, it's definitely easier to do it little and often, and that helps because even if the grass is wet, there's less damage done.  :)

Are there any gaps between the grass box and the mower through which the clippings can be blown, or gaps between the grassbox frame and the material it is constructed from?  I have seen grassboxes where clips are used to connect to fabric to the frame and these can leave gaps.

Possibly, it did clip on, I'll have a look when I next get it out.

Is the grass wet? if so it could be clogging up the chute into the grass collector also is the machine set too low causing not enough air flow to suck the clippings up. If all fails contact the manufacturer
