Ideas for an empty corner saved for Dahlias next summer?

Hi all, I've got a small patch in my front garden (southwest facing so plenty of sun) currently empty (planted starflower and freesia bulbs there in the spring but few showed up), which I expect to plant my dahlias there next summer. Wonder if there's anything I can plant there at the moment for autumn/winter pls? Need to be easy to remove / move to make room for dahlias when spring comes.. Otherwise it's just going to get occupied by weeds soon...

Thanks!

You could sow something like forget-me-nots that flower in May and will be over before it's time to plant out the dahlias, but it's a bit late. Maybe worth a go and treat them as a green manure if they don't flower in time.

Thanks JennyJ! Talking about green manure, I don't mind growing some veg there as well during the time, but don't know which veg is suitable to grow over winter.

You could sink pots containing spring bulbs, if you have room to put them out of the way when they start going over.

Wallflowers perhaps?  You can buy bare rooted ones now.
  • Thank you all! That's a lot of lovely ideas for me to explore  :)
