Raspberries

Hi I have some raspberry canes planted March/April. (I am a bit of a novice). They are a late variety and have now gone mad they have produced very healthy canes, about 6ft. high and covered in flowers and young fruit. Any ideas would be most welcome! Thanks Bob Humble.

    Pick and eat the fruit when it's ripe, then prune the canes to the ground in late winter/early spring. They'll grow new canes in spring/summer which will fruit next autumn.

    Do you want ideas for using the raspberries,  crumble, cake,  sauces for ice cream, just lay them in a tray and put in the freezer as they are,   Bag up when frozen, you’ll have raspberries until next season.  No need to blanch or pre cook.

    It's worth knowing that they can get invasive so watch out for new growth a few feet away coming from the shallow spreading roots. On the plus side, these new growths can be easily severed with some root and planted in an other area for even more fruit next year.

    Thanks for the comments. Jenny’s idea was the best. I was just surprised that they were producing fruit at this time of the year. They are lovely fruits so I am going to leave well alone and see how things go.
