Leylandii

My friend has a pruned Leylandii which screens her compost area but some patches of brown leaves are occurring. Is this due to sun damage or something more sinister. It looks a bit of an eyesore.

If it's been cut back into old wood, it won't recover. That's the big problem with most conifer, not just leylandii.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Could it be aphids?

Probably just dry as well if it hasn't been cut back recently. Aphids  really don't cause problems for leylandii.  :)

Most likely from cutting back into the old brown wood.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
