What makes sedums flop like this?

I have a few of these sedums. They are 3 or 4 years old. This year they’ve done this. Was it the weather, or is it age? I’m planning to leave them and cut back as usual next spring. Is that the right thing to do?

Carmarthenshire (mild, wet, windy). Loam over shale, very slightly sloping, so free draining. Mildly acidic or neutral.

They'll be fine after cutting back next year, but you can put some supports in - early on - to mitigate it.
If it happens regularly, you can do the Chelsea Chop thing in May. I can't do it here as they're only just growing a bit in May, but it seems popular in the south.

apparently you can Chelsea chop then, I always forget though.

Mine grow through other plants, so it's not too big a problem, but if I cut mine back early, they wouldn't be flowering until late September/earlyOctober.
